Tmura, in partnership with a US charitable foundation, is delighted to announce its new Tmura Matching Grants Initiative. This US foundation is generously providing up to $500,000 in capital in the form of matching funds for this project.

Am I eligible for this program?
You are eligible for this program if you are an Israeli individual or company and you are making your first philanthropic gift of at least NIS 100,000 (you are still eligible if you have made smaller gifts in the past).

Which organizations can I support through this program?
Israeli non-profit organizations that operate in the area of youth and education.  In most cases, matching fund grants will be made to one of the many projects that have already received funding from Tmura (See our Grantees), although in some cases, grants may be made to other non-profits that meet Tmura’s criteria. For further detail regarding specific criteria and information required from the organization, please refer to our Application page.

How much will the Matching Grants Initiative provide in matching funding?
Tmura's Matching Grants Initiative will provide "shekel for shekel" matching for approved applications of grants between NIS 100,000 and NIS 200,000. You are of course welcome to make grants of more than NIS 200,000; however matching funds are available only up to NIS 200,000.

Will the entire amount of the matching grant be transferred to the non-profit organization
upon approval of the application?
Not necessarily. First of all, matching funds will not released to the grantee organization until your grant has been paid in full. Also, Tmura leaves it to its discretion to transfer matching funds in installments based on pre-defined milestones, in order to ensure that the objectives of the proposed project are achieved.

Will all submitted applications that meet the eligibility criteria receive matching funding?
Not necessarily. All eligible grants will be subject to a review process by Tmura's grants committee, and final approval by Tmura's Board of Directors. The determination of Tmura’s Board of Directors shall be final, binding and conclusive as to all questions and decisions of eligibility and grants.

I want to make a grant through the Matching Grants Initiative but don’t know enough about good causes to make an informed decision. How can I learn more about the types of projects that are suitable for this funding partnership?
We would like to encourage you to consider making your grant to one of Tmura's recommended projects.
(See Our Grantees on our website.) These are all programs which Tmura's grants committee has reviewed and which we know to be doing excellent work in the area of youth and education in Israel.  We would be happy to meet with you to present these projects in more detail and/or to arrange a site visit for you with any of the organizations.  Please contact Baruch Lipner for more information (baruch@tmura.org or 03-607-4506).

I am not a member of Tmura. Can I still participate in the Tmura Matching Grants Initiative?
Yes, our objective is to encourage new philanthropy in Israel, from Tmura members and non-members alike. Of course, if you are not already a member, we would be happy to have you become a member of Tmura as well. Please contact Baruch (baruch@tmura.org) for details.

If I have previously given a grant of at least NIS 100,000 to another Israeli non-profit whose work does not fall in the area of youth and education, am I still eligible?
No. The objective of this initiative is to encourage new philanthropists to get involved. If you have already made a grant in the past of at least NIS 100,000, even if that grant is in an area other than youth/education, we commend you on your generosity and hope that the experience was sufficiently satisfying for you to continue your philanthropic work.

Can I submit more than one proposal for matching support?
No, only one proposal per applicant will be considered.

Can a non-profit organization receive more than one grant as part of the Matching Grants Initiative?
Yes. Tmura's grants committee will evaluate each application and determine whether additional grants for a certain non-profit organization are appropriate.

How do I apply?
The Tmura Matching Grants Initiative application form is comprised of two parts, both of which must be submitted in full before an application will be considered. Please refer to our Application Page for details.

I represent a non-profit. Can I apply for a matching grant?
No. The objective of this program is to encourage new philanthropy in Israel and as such this program is intended for potential donors. Donors identify a nonprofit that they are interested in supporting and then apply for a matching grant for their grant to the organization. We encourage you to take advantage of this initiative by trying to identify eligible donors and using the matching grant program as an incentive for them to make their first ever gift of at least NIS 100,000.

Non-profit organizations should be prepared to work with their donors to provide them with the information and documentation required for submission with their application.

I am a non-profit organization with an eligible donor. What materials do I need to submit to the Tmura Matching Grants Initiative?
Please refer to the Application page for more detail.

Do I have to pay my grant all at once?
No. Your application must include the total amount of the grant you intend to give. However, this grant does not have to be paid all at once. If necessary, the grant can be paid in two installments. The only stipulations are that a) the full amount must be transferred to the grantee prior to Dec. 31, 2008 and b) the matching funds will not be released to the grantee organization until your grant has been paid in full. We will also require verification that your grant has been paid in full.

What is Tmura?
Tmura is a non-profit organization established in early 2002 by the Israeli venture capital community in order to share the wealth being generated in the high-technology industry with broader sectors of Israeli society, and to help develop a culture of giving within this important sector of the economy. One way Tmura achieves this objective is by soliciting donations of options from young high-tech companies and, when some of these companies either go public or are acquired, Tmura donates the proceeds from the sale of its shares, to education- and youth-related charities in Israel.

Many dozens of high-tech companies have already completed the process of allocating equity to Tmura (several more are nearing completion) and Tmura has generated significant cash grants to the community, from successful "exits", which have been allocated to many excellent non-profit organizations focusing on youth and education. Tmura's activities are supported by the leading VC firms in Israel as well as other professional services firms that operate in the high-tech arena.
